The Record
Sealed record · held in confidence
If you are reading this, you are holding a sealed record of how a family was treated by institutions of the state. It is encrypted. You cannot read it without a password, and you were not given one when you received this file.
That is deliberate, and it is for your protection as much as ours. Until the password reaches you, you are holding an unreadable file. You cannot disclose what you cannot read, and you cannot be asked to.
What to do
- If you have not been sent a password — do nothing. Keep this file somewhere you will still have it in a year. That is the entire job for now.
- If a password has reached you, it came with a written instruction telling you why. Read that first. It will tell you whether you are being asked to read the record, or to publish it.
- Enter the password below. Everything happens on this machine. This page makes no network connection of any kind — you may disconnect from the internet first, and it will still work.
Before you publish anything. Whoever publishes carries the legal responsibility for publishing — not the person who gave you the file. Every document in here is either our own sworn words or a state body's own words back to us, and each one carries a cryptographic seal you can verify. That is the safest possible form for material like this. It is still your decision, and you should take your own advice before you make it.
